Only 10% Developers Keen on Green Property

VIVAnews - Consumers of property products need to be careful when offered residences having green living concept because there are only 10 percent out of the existing 100 developers that have seriously applied the idea.

"Based on our observation and criteria, their number is still very low," said an environmental observer Nirwono Joga last week.

Joga said that property developers wanting to develop a green living area should at least implement eight criteria including, among others: 30 percent of the residences' area will not be used for construction; zero run off zoning taking the form of dam construction to retain rainfall; implementation of zero waste system (waste management); construction of property should apply green-building concept (energy and water save, infrastructure support, transportation links and community involvement).

"Nowadays, many [developers] are offering green living concept but they have basically yet to qualify any criteria. The developers know that this concept attracts many buyers," said Joga.

He said that these developers tend to promote more of the neighborhood rather than the homes being offered. Their habit of setting up early construction of the green facility proved the assumption.
